Obey, then Enjoy
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord , “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
Psalms 91:14-15 NIV
Truly, the Lord is good. Psalms 91 is about God's protection. In verses 14 and 15 we can read the cause and effect phrases here. The Lord protects those who love Him, and He shall do so but with one condition - to truly love Him. Similarly, verses 1 and 2 show these conditions:
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord , “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalms 91:1-2 NIV
Whoever dwells in the shelter will be covered by the shadow of the Almighty. Whoever voluntarily goes there and rests there will be protected.
We often see the Word of God as full of inspiring words, promises, gifts from the Lord, but as humans we usually oversee, or worse, ignore the conditions before we claim the promise. Our God is surely gracious, but it still depends on our own will if we would want to get it and enjoy it. We need to obey first so we can fully claim and truly enjoy and savor His promise.
Praises, glory and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ!
