The Joy in Toil

for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?
Ecclesiastes 2:25 NIV

Have you ever thought about these things?
- Why do I need to take a bath, and then sweat to get bad odor again?
- Why do I need to eat, when I know that later I will be hungry again?
- Why do I have to wash these dishes, if these will be dirty again after I eat?

If we would notice these routinary activities, we would think, aah life is like a wheel that keeps turning. You do something, then repeat, and repeat, because we need to repeat. That's life.

Seemingly, everything we do are worthless! We tire ourselves to do these tasks, and many of these tasks are beneficial to others who did not work for it. Do we think it's unfair? Yes we do.

But looking at verse 25, there is God - who gives meaning to all of these "worthless" tasks. It is Him who gives purpose, who gives the good feeling of having to do a task over and over again.

It is God who gave purpose in the washing of our dishes, because we celebrate His provisions of food to satisfy our stomachs, to give nutrition to our bodies, to enjoy the family table fellowship, that's why dirty dishes became a symbol of blessing.

It is God who gave purpose on our jobs, why we strive to be successful. It is God who gave purpose to all our hardships at work in which someone who didn't toil for it, will benefit, and for us, that is our daughter. It is to celebrate and honor God's gift to us, our baby.

As we all see, without God, everything is worthless. Well, not just worthless, but inexistent. This is a reminder for us to always honor God and remember all His blessings for us, because it is He who gives purpose in everything that we do.

Praises, Glory to our Lord Jesus Christ!
